# What does an endotoxin result on a peptide vial mean?

An endotoxin result measures bacterial endotoxin, a fragment of bacterial cell walls, in endotoxin units (EU), usually per vial. As of 23 September 2026, it is one test among several: it says nothing about whether the vial holds the right compound, how much of it, or how pure it is. Compare results only in the same unit.

## What endotoxin is and how it is measured

Endotoxin is a fragment of the outer wall of certain bacteria. It remains after bacteria are killed or filtered out, so a sterile material can still carry it. Laboratories measure it with the LAL test and report it in endotoxin units (EU), a measure of biological activity rather than weight.

An endotoxin test, usually the LAL assay, measures bacterial endotoxin in endotoxin units. It does not show identity, amount or purity.

A sterility or microbial test checks for living bacteria and fungi. A sterile sample can still carry endotoxin, which is measured separately.

## Reading a figure

The pharmacopeial threshold used for parenteral materials is 5 EU per kilogram of body weight per hour.

When comparing results between sellers, check the unit first. Per vial, per mg and per mL figures are not interchangeable.

An example with its scope stated: Retatrutide batch RETA-4728-A is Janoshik-tested for bacterial endotoxin: 6.066 EU per vial, analysed 21 September 2026 (task 234146, key H2KI86I8GWB4). This report covers bacterial endotoxin only. It does not establish identity or purity.

## Where an endotoxin test is offered

ACS Peptide Testing Labs (ACS Laboratory) lists "Endotoxin testing" at US$175 to 350 (quoted); Janoshik Analytical lists "Endotoxin Analysis (additional service)" at US$180; Accumark Labs lists "Endotoxin (LAL)" at US$200, each per its own price page, read on 23 September 2026.

An endotoxin test is normally ordered alongside an identity and purity test, not instead of one; a seller that publishes only an endotoxin report has published a report about endotoxin and nothing else.
