Vial, diluent, syringe. The arithmetic.

Milligrams divided by millilitres gives the concentration. The syringe scale turns that into what one unit holds. Everything below follows from those two facts.

How the numbers are made

Concentration

Milligrams in the vial divided by millilitres of diluent added. The vial mass is fixed; the diluent volume is the one number you choose.

Micrograms per unit

A U-100 syringe divides one millilitre into 100 units, so one unit is 0.01 ml and holds the concentration in mg/ml times ten, in micrograms. A U-40 unit is 0.025 ml.

Draws per vial

The whole vial volume in units divided by the draw size you enter, rounded down to whole draws. A half-mark result is a reason to choose a different diluent volume, not to read between marks.
