DSIP in the Philippines
DSIP is a nine-residue peptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood during slow-wave sleep, which is where the name comes from. It is one of the older compounds in this catalogue by date of discovery and one of the less well characterised by mechanism.
Published research covers sleep architecture, particularly slow-wave distribution, alongside hypothalamic signalling and stress adaptation endpoints. A specific receptor has never been definitively identified, which is the main reason the mechanistic literature remains unsettled decades after isolation.
