Is semaglutide approved in the Philippines?
As of 23 September 2026, semaglutide is approved in the United States and the European Union as branded prescription medicines for diabetes and weight management. FDA Philippines lists semaglutide injections among VAT-exempt diabetes medicines; the registration record itself could not be read from its verification portal that day.

US FDA: "Approved for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus and related cardiovascular and kidney risk reduction (Ozempic, Rybelsus); chronic weight management and cardiovascular risk reduction in obesity or overweight (Wegovy)". Each approval covers the named branded product, its formulation and its labelled use. It does not extend to any other product containing semaglutide.

European Union
EMA: "Approved for type 2 diabetes mellitus (Ozempic, Rybelsus), weight management (Wegovy) and non-cirrhotic MASH with F2 to F3 fibrosis (Kayshild)". Five authorised products containing semaglutide, all held by Novo Nordisk A/S. The authorisation covers the named medicines only.

Philippines
FDA Advisory No. 2025-1200, 6 November 2025: FDA Philippines published updates to its list of VAT-exempt health products under the CREATE Act, including seven semaglutide solutions for injection listed under drugs for diabetes.
No FDA Philippines advisory found on 23 September 2026 warns against a semaglutide product, unlike tirzepatide. The registration record could not be read: the FDA Philippines verification portal search timed out on 23 September 2026, retried the same day in a browser with the same result.

What the approvals do not cover
A research-grade vial containing semaglutide is none of these medicines. It has no approved label, no approved device and no approved indication, and the approvals above, in any country, do not extend to it.
