Storing peptides in Philippine heat: the rules that matter here.

Storage advice written for temperate climates assumes a 20°C room. Manila does not have those. Here is how tropical ambient changes the handling rules.

Why tropical ambient is the problem

Peptide degradation is chemistry, and chemistry runs faster when it is warm. The main routes, hydrolysis, oxidation and aggregation, all accelerate with temperature. A vial that would sit comfortably on a shelf in a 20°C European lab spends its life at 28 to 34°C in a Philippine room, and higher near a window or in an un-airconditioned space. That difference compounds daily. It is also why sourcing matters: a vial that spent two weeks in uncooled international transit has already taken heat exposure you cannot see. Before and after reconstitution

The two states of a vial have very different tolerances. In this climate, refrigerate lyophilized vials on arrival rather than leaving them in a drawer.

Do not freeze a reconstituted vial to extend its life: freeze-thaw cycling damages peptides in solution more than steady refrigeration ever would. The bacteriostatic water bottle itself also stays refrigerated once opened, and it must not be frozen.

Transport, brownouts and bad habits

Three local failure modes account for most heat damage. The parked car: cabin temperatures in direct Manila sun can exceed 50°C, enough to compromise a vial in an afternoon. Never leave vials in a vehicle. The brownout: a closed refrigerator rides out a typical outage of a few hours, so resist opening the door; for longer interruptions, move vials to an insulated container with ice packs. The counter habit: taking a vial out, getting distracted, and finding it an hour later at room temperature. Build the habit of returning the vial to the refrigerator the moment the draw is done.
