Research answer
What are the side effects of BPC-157?
The honest answer is that BPC-157's side effects in people are not known. As of 23 September 2026, the two small uncontrolled human reports recorded no adverse events, but a 2025 systematic review found no clinical safety data, and the US FDA says it has identified no, or only limited, safety information.

01
What has been recorded
The two small uncontrolled pilots, of 2 and 12 people, reported no adverse events. A 2025 systematic review states that no clinical safety data were found.
02
Why the absence of reports is not evidence of safety
Both reports were small and had no control group, and neither was designed to detect side effects. Absence of reported events in studies that small says little: an uncommon event would usually not appear at all.
The US FDA put it this way on its compounding page, current as of 22 April 2026: "Compounded drugs containing BPC-157 may pose risk for immunogenicity for certain routes of administration and may have complexities with regard to peptide-related impurities and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) characterization. FDA has identified no, or only limited, safety-related information for the proposed routes of administration. Therefore, the agency lacks sufficient information to know whether the drug would cause harm when administered to humans."

Where the research is
The Research Desk rates BPC-157's evidence small human studies. The human reports are described on its Evidence Map row, alongside the rat studies of tendon, ligament and gut injury that make up most of the literature.
04
Reading a "no side effects" claim
A post or listing that says BPC-157 has no side effects is describing an absence of data, not a finding. The literature behind it is mostly rat work on tendon, ligament and gut injury, and the Research Desk lists those papers with what each measured.
Animal and cell studies only. BPC-157 has been studied mostly in rats, in models of tendon, ligament, muscle and gut injury.
